The True Measure of Faith

ree

TUESDAY - After 25th Sunday after Pentecost

“Salt is good; but if the salt loses its savor, with what shall it be seasoned?” (Lk 14:34).

The salt are the disciples of the Lord. By passing on His teaching, they removed moral decay from among men. If we call this transmission of teaching “illumination,” then even the very term “salt” acquires the same meaning. Thus the entire saying could be expressed in this way: “Illumination is good! But if illumination becomes tasteless, what is it good for? Cast it out!”

Illumination acts as salt only when it is filled with the principles and elements of the Lord’s teaching, and when it remains itself in the position of a disciple before the Lord. But as soon as it departs from this orientation, and instead of the Lord’s teachings adopts foreign doctrines, it becomes insipid and useless, infected with the corruption of falsehood and error, and begins to act not as a healer but as a source of contagion.

History has confirmed this with many examples—and continues to confirm it.

Yet why does no one pay attention to experience?

The enemy casts darkness over everything, and people begin to imagine that there is “light” in teachings far removed from the teachings of the Lord.
